De Geneeskundige Hulpverleningsorganisatie in de Regio (GHOR)
The GHOR, under direction of the safety regions in The Netherlands, is the organization which leads and coordinates all medical aid in case of disasters and emergencies.
It exists to ensure that doctors, hospitals, ambulances, apothecaries, Red Cross and other relevant partners will work together efficiently and in a coordinated fashion.
During an actual disaster, the GHOR is the central point of contact for the other disciplines (such as the police and fire departments) as well as the public administration for anything that is medical-related.
Most of the work the GHOR does is preparatory in nature however. It ensures all of the different parties involved have the correct processes in place in case of major disasters, and that these are practiced and tested appropriately, especially in a coordinated fashion.
